Apache Traffic Server is released

Just got word that Apache Traffic Server is now an official Apache project (in incubation, but I suspect not for too long).

For all you protocol fans, time to forget about mod_proxy, varnish, nginx, f5, bluecoat, gfe and welcome our HTTP serving overlords.

This is going to be fun!

YTS is soon to be ATS

In case you hadn’t heard, the yahoo traffic server code base is due to be open sourced by my old team mates per the Apache “incubator” proposal. I am happy to say that I am one of the initial commiters for the project and hope to make a positive impact from day 1. There are no firm dates for the traffic server svn import, but I believe that within 1-2 months, we should have a buildable piece of “beta” software available in ASF’s repository. Once it’s officially open, I will hopefully try and blog useful information here and monitor the TrafficServer dev/user lists. Feel free to signup as the mailing lists are all ready to go

Recognition

Wow, this is really cool news! One of my co-workers sent the link below around in IRC this morning to the 5 of us working on YTS.

Yahoo Traffic Server got a front page mention on netcraft. Check it out here.

Getting a little obscure recognition is a cool thing. I guess someone really is watching. 12bb req/day is not too shabby.
